On a beautiful November day in 2017, the Mustea\u021b\u0103 family's world was turned upside down. Terrible news shattered their dreams: Stelian, their 3-year-old son, was diagnosed with cancer. Nothing foretold this pain, but it came uninvited, without asking permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anna, the boy's mother, sadly remembers that period: \"Stelian was in his first year of kindergarten, where he really liked it. He was barely 3 months old when he started making new friends, fitting into the group of children, even though he was frequently sick. At the beginning of November, he had bronchitis. Several weeks of treatment followed, but without any results, until I decided to go with him to the family doctor again, to ask for antibiotics. But while I was waiting, blood started flowing from his nose and his fever suddenly rose. That's when the doctors intervened, we called the ambulance and we were urgently transported to the \"V. Ignatenco\" Children's Clinical Hospital, Intensive Care Unit\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A difficult night followed for the entire family. Stelian remained alone in the hospital, and the boy's parents and sister went home, to return the next day. Overnight, the doctors decided that a computed tomography scan was needed, a device that the hospital did not have, that's why the child was transported to the Mother and Child Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LEGO. PLEURESIA. PERICARDITIS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Stelian was passionate about Lego toys. He often put the pieces in his mouth, and the doctors thought he had swallowed a smaller piece, which blocked a bronchus, because after the X-ray taken the night he was in intensive care, it was discovered that there was not enough air in one lung. At the Mother and Child Institute, we also found out that he had pericarditis, but also pleurisy, and his situation was very serious. We stayed there for 5 days, also in the intensive care unit, where the fluid from his heart was removed. Unfortunately, the doctors there told us that they could not help him with anything and we were transferred to another hospital again\", says Stelian's mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De data aceasta au ajuns la Spitalul Clinic Republican \u201eTimofei Mo\u0219neaga\u201d, unde b\u0103iatul a fost internat \u00een sec\u021bia de Malforma\u021bii Congenitale Cardiace \u0219i preg\u0103tit pentru opera\u021bie, nu \u00eenainte de a i se face punc\u021bii pleurale, numeroase investiga\u021bii \u0219i analize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SUSPECTED CANCER. IMMATURE TERATOMA<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201e\u00cenainte de a fi operat, medicul ne-a informat c\u0103 exist\u0103 suspec\u021bie de cancer, dar un diagnostic clar a fost stabilit doar dup\u0103 interven\u021bie \u2014 teratom imatur la timus. \u00cen ziua \u00een care am aflat acest termen, am r\u0103scolit tot internetul \u0219i m-am speriat de ceea ce citeam \u0219i vedeam. Atunci am decis s\u0103 nu mai caut nici o informa\u021bie \u0219i s\u0103 las totul pe m\u00e2na medicilor speciali\u0219ti. Astfel, dup\u0103 opera\u021bie, am fost redirec\u021biona\u021bi c\u0103tre Institutul Oncologic, iar \u00een a treia zi de Cr\u0103ciun, cu diagnosticul de Tumor\u0103 malign\u0103 a mediastinului (teratom imatur), Stelian a fost internat \u00een sec\u021bia Oncologie Pediatric\u0103\u201d, \u00ee\u0219i aminte\u0219te Anna.<\/p>\n\n\n

In the hospital that became his second home for the next 6 months, the little patient found a very warm and friendly environment. Here, in addition to the long chemotherapy sessions, Stelian played with the other children in the ward, was visited by Santa Claus, received Easter gifts, became friends with the doctors and nurses, and discovered that the world that seemed scary to others, is beautiful to him, even though he has to endure needles and infusions every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About that period, the boy's mother tells with a twinkle in her eyes: \"Stelian had just turned three, and the thought of having to spend a lot of time in the hospital scared me. For me, the Oncology Hospital was associated with death, as I think it is for many others, but after the door to the ward, I met many smiles, a lot of good cheer, many happy and confident people. That gave me courage and I knew from the first day that Stelian was strong and, with so many beautiful people by his side, he could not lose the fight. And the encouragement of the doctors, who told us that \"every man has the right to a chance\", gave us wings and hope\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the 6 courses of chemotherapy, in June 2018, little Stelian left the Pediatric Oncology ward. He walked out the door victorious and with the confidence that he would never return here again (except for a visit).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHAT IS STELIAN DOING NOW?<\/p>\n\n\n

\u00cen prezent, Stelian este elev \u00een clasa a doua. Cre\u0219te fericit al\u0103turi de p\u0103rin\u021bi \u0219i de cele dou\u0103 surioare ale sale \u0219i \u00ee\u0219i dore\u0219te s\u0103 devin\u0103 inventator. \u00cenc\u0103 mai este pasionat de lego, dar \u0219tie c\u0103 aceast\u0103 juc\u0103rie poate fi periculoas\u0103 pentru copiii mici, de aceea nu-i permite surioarei sale s\u0103 se joace cu piesele m\u0103runte. Merge regulat la controale, investiga\u021bii \u0219i analize medicale, iar rezultatele sunt de fiecare dat\u0103 \u00eembucur\u0103toare. Este m\u00e2ndru c\u0103 p\u0103rin\u021bii s\u0103i au ales s\u0103 fie tratat aici, \u00een Republica Moldova, \u0219i spune c\u0103 atunci c\u00e2nd va cre\u0219te mare, va scrie o carte \u00een care \u00ee\u0219i va spune povestea. P\u00e2n\u0103 atunci, istoria sa este povestit\u0103 periodic de mama sa, jurnalista Anna Casian-Mustea\u021b\u0103, ca \u00eencurajare pentru toate familiile care trec prin aceast\u0103 boal\u0103 \u0219i cred c\u0103 nu mai ajung s\u0103 vad\u0103 lumina de la cap\u0103tul tunelului.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The light exists, but it takes time, patience and hope to reach it. AO \"Life Without Leukemia\" helps children with cancer see the light and embrace it, then carry it forward!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
